As a child I was fascinated by kaleidoscopes and their constantly changing patterns. I seem to have returned to these back lit illuminated patterns in some of my oil paintings – Summer Fruits Kaleidoscope, Crab Apples in a Gold Bowl (sold), Peaches in a Gold Bowl (sold) and Roses Bowl. I have a garden full of spring flowers and after a very wet winter I wanted to celebrate the arrival of spring with a new kaleidoscope painting. The narcissi are from the Ledbury Flower Farmer a local sustainable artisan farmer who provides flowers for many of my paintings.
The flowers are arranged in an engraved silver bowl and their reflections gave a constantly changing theatre of colour. The subject of this still life painting was far from still in the studio. The changing light produced beautiful reflections in the bowl which I have captured in oils and mixed media. The use of transparent glazes in the final stages of the painting enabled the light to shine through. The background colour is Michael Harding oil paints Kings Blue Light in tint.
This painting can be hung directly on a wall. I can also provide framing ideas and costs upon request.
