Still Life Oil Paintings and Herefordshire Series for Sale by Nicola Currie

Welcome to my celebration of the fruits of the British countryside. From my studio in Ledbury, Herefordshire, I am surrounded by fruit farms, artisan cider and beer makers, vineyards and cheesemakers. These local landscapes and producers inspire this collection of original British still life oil paintings, celebrating the harvest through the changing seasons.

I am currently working on a series entitled A Taste of Herefordshire, which has proved popular with collectors. Perry Pears and Fine Perry is one example from the series. Every painting in this collection is an original artwork, painted entirely by hand in my studio.

I create still life food paintings because of my lifelong interest in food and its connection with memory, place and celebration. One Christmas a friend gave me an Elizabeth David recipe book illustrated with paintings from different centuries. It sparked my imagination in more ways than one, and one day I hope to illustrate my own recipe book. Over the years my sold collection has included grapes, lobsters, cheese, cherries, port and brandy. My aim is not simply to record fruit, but to celebrate its beauty, its seasonality and the memories and rituals that surround food.

Many of my still life paintings on black backgrounds draw inspiration from the classical traditions of still life, with their dramatic contrasts, reflective surfaces and careful observation of light. Others have a more contemporary colour palette and design. My paintings on gold leaf isolate the fruit from its background, emphasising its colour, texture and form while creating a luminous surface that responds beautifully to changing light.

Every painting is created using professional-quality oil paints on museum-quality supports and is intended to be enjoyed for generations. My work has also been exhibited in restaurants and galleries.
