This painting began with some stunning David Austin roses from the Ombersley Flower Farm. The painting shows them in an engraved silver bowl showing their multiple reflections. This pastel kaleidoscope of subtle colour is framed in its own wooden frame.
As a child I was fascinated by the changing patterns in a kaleidoscope and as an adult I often employ a circular format to my paintings – including Summer Fruits Kaleidoscope; Crab Apples in a Silver Bowl; Peaches in a Silver Bowl. The multiple reflections from the metallic bowls provides constantly changing reflections and colour combinations – so that the still life is far from still!
