The original oil painting from which this print was taken was inspired by the vivid colours of the Harlequin Tulips. The flowers are enhanced by the gold Royal Worcester Jug in which reflections of the artist painting can be seen. This bright cheerful print of primary colours is a celebration of spring. I was living in Worcester at the time and part of Worcester’s heritage is Royal Worcester porcelain. Many of my subscribers and collectors have relatives who used to work in the porcelain factory and some were painters of Royal Worcester’s intricate designs. I wanted to create a piece of art that reflected the beauty of this cultural heritage.
Royal Worcester’s historic designs and porcelain can be seen at the Museum of Royal Worcester in the city.
