I love painting cherries (and eating them). This painting is one of contrasts – the solid fruits against the sunlit semi-transparent leaves; the jagged leaf edges against the smooth round cherries and of course the juxtaposition between the colour opposites of the red and the green. The background is a light turquoise suggesting a summer’s day and giving the piece a contemporary palette.
I started painting hanging fruit oil paintings after studying the work of the Spanish painter Juan Fernandez el Labrador. This hanging cherries painting follows my Grapes of Gold; Sicilian Lemons ,Blackdown Apples in Evening Light; Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries and Satsuma Sonata. All these sold paintings are in the archive section of this website.
