These irises appear every year at Spetchley Park Gardens where I did an artist residency from 2021-2024. The painting was prepared for a spring exhibition in the gardens. The painting celebrates the beauty and delicate colours of these irises as they open on a summer’s day. The lively impressionistic background combines a soft warm blue with dashes of pink providing a pastel contrast to the flowers and their leaves.
