Roses Oil Painting ‘Just Joey’ Roses

On the day that the Chairman of David Austin Roses – David  J.C. Austin passed away, I happened to be at the easel painting the company’s  beautiful ‘Just Joey’ rose. Rozanne Delamore of the Ledbury Flower Farm had supplied me with a wonderful selection of David Austin roses, and I am grateful to her for growing such beautiful flowers. I was drawn to this flower because of its beautiful golden colour. I recreated the depth of this colour by painting thin layers of transparent golden yellow pigment. The beauty of this colour is emphasised by the soft grey violet background.

This painting would make a suitable gift for gardeners and rose growers. The frame is a open grain white wood frame which gives a contemporary effect. I have previously focussed on David Austin roses in my painting Roses Bowl.
