These ‘pom pom’ peonies remind me of making pom poms at school out of scraps of wool. I love the sheer exuberance of these joyful bundles of colour. I had great fun painting them. First of all contrasting their smooth semi-transparent petals with their colourful impasto centres. Then adding the shadows and soft focus background. The peonies can be found at Spetchley Park Gardens near Worcester where I did an Artist Residency from 2021-2024.
