This painting is a celebration of primary colours. It began with the Royal Worcester Jug which echoed the shape of the vibrant tulips. The smooth multiple glazed surface of the jug provides an optical contrast to the textured petals of some of the tulips. Lit in natural light, the jug reflects my image painting the canvas.
Royal Worcester porcelain often appears in my paintings. Petit Dejeuner, Mousse au Chocolat et Orange and Coffee Pot and Macaroons are just some examples. We lived in Worcester for more than 30 years before moving to Ledbury. Having visited the Royal Worcester Museum I wanted to portray some of the city’s artistic heritage in my paintings. Many former Royal Worcester employees have visited my exhibitions over the years and it is always fascinating to hear about the art and processes behind the completed porcelain pieces.
