Calla lilies are a subject I return to again and again because of their beautiful shapes, shadows and colours. Beloved by the Art Nouveau movement and many artists, their lyrical curvaceous forms also create interesting negative shapes. This painting is made up of a palette of mixtures of just five colours with black and white. Working with a limited palette certainly helped the painting hang together. The cradle on this large board is coloured in the same colour as the background and can be hung direct on a wall. If you prefer it framed this can be arranged.
