In autumn I explored perry pears and fine perry in my research for this painting. Tom Oliver of Oliver’s Cider Farm showed me all the different types of perry pear. This was followed by Perry Fest at the Hereford Cider Museum and understanding the significance of this drink brought to these isles by the Romans.
Perry pears come in all shapes, sizes and colours and I chose a copper skillet to provide a warm reflective surface and to contrast with the cooler yellows of the perry in champagne glasses. The painting celebrates this year’s harvest of perry pears and is part of my series of paintings focussed on ‘A Taste of Herefordshire’.
